Why Wednesdays?

Why Wednesdays?

Why is the market held Wednesday mornings? That is a question we hear a lot at the Benton County Farmers Market (BCFM).

Our main goal at BCFM is building community access to local farm products. We are always working on a balance of looking for more farmers and growers and making it easier for the community to access their products.

When we started we needed to find farmers that grew enough produce over a long enough period of time to sustain a market through the summer. The local growers that we found were all committed to other larger markets on Saturdays. We understood we are a smaller community and a smaller market so we needed to find our niche. We tried several days and times and found Wednesday morning we had the most farmers available and shoppers shopping.

We have stuck with Wednesdays and over the years we have steadily grown the market.

Does that mean we will always be a Wednesday market? No, at BCFM are always weighing options and farmer/grower availability. We are always looking for more locally grown products and how to make it easier to access those products.
